Heinz Bär´s 201st victory / 201. vítězství Heinze Bära

 

Heinz Bär is one of the most famous fighter pilots of World War II. In the second half of 1943 he fell out of favor with the Luftwaffe and NSDAP, but in 1944 he experienced a comeback from the position of a simple pilot to the position of Kommodore. The article on his 201st victory is one piece of the mosaic of Bär's career.

Moskitojagd

In the 11/2023 issue of INFO Eduard magazine I published a short article outlining the Pathfinder missions and the role the Luftwaffe played in their creation and defense against them. The airman, whose Messerschmitt Bf 109 is depicted in Adam Tooby's boxart, also relates the fate of one Mosquito crew. The course of their mission confirmed that this twin-engined aircraft was a true (wooden) wonder.

Ve vydání magazínu INFO Eduard 11/2023 jsem publikoval krátký článek, který nastiňuje problematiku Pathfinder misí a jakou roli při jejich vzniku i při obraně proti nim hrála Luftwaffe. Letce, jehož Messerschmitt Bf 109 je zobrazen na boxartu Adama Toobyho, se týká i osud jedné osádky letounu Mosquito. Průběh jejich mise potvrdil, že tento dvoumotorový letoun byl skutečným zázrakem.

In the October 2023 issue of INFO Eduard magazine, I prepared a short essay on the rearmament of the first US Navy units with F4F Wildcat aircraft. While the American machines were helping to protect American neutrality and allies during this period, US Navy fighter pilots were intensively preparing for engagement with future adversaries.

Tsurugi Butai

When the US Navy airmen were preparing to attack the Japanese islands for the second time that year in March 1945, they did not count on strong resistance from enemy aviators. They assumed that the elite Japanese airmen had fallen during the previous battles for Guadalcanal, Rabaul, the Pacific Islands, and the Philippines. Their surprise was all the greater when they encountered the elite Tsurugi Butai fighter unit.

Když se letci US Navy v březnu 1945 chystali již podruhé v tom roce zaútočit na japonské ostrovy, příliš nepočítali se silným odporem nepřátelských letců. Předpokládali, že elita japonských pilotů padla během předchozích bojů o Guadalcanal, Rabaul, tichomořské ostrovy a Filipíny. O to větší bylo jejich překvapení, když se střetli s elitní bojovou jednotkou Tsurugi Butai.

Using the example of one part of the subcontracting system of the Regensburg aircraft factory, this article shows the horrific scale of this Nazi production machine.

In the article The Tenacious Adversary, I focused on a short period in the history of Jagdgeschwader 3, which in the summer of 1941, under the command of Günther Lützow, covered the advance of German troops towards Kyiv. However, the fighting with the Soviet air force proved more difficult than the German command had expected.

V článku Houževnatý protivník jsem se zaměřil na krátký úsek v historii Jagdgeschwader 3, která v létě 1941 pod velením Günthera Lützowa kryla postup německých vojsk směrem na Kyjev. Boje se sovětským letectvem se však ukázaly jako těžší, než německé velení čekalo.

Kurfürst – Messerschmitt Bf 109 K-4

In the September issue of the INFO Eduard magazine we prepared an article about the last combat deployed version of the ´109 together with Vladimír Šulc. My co-author concentrated on the development of this version and I prepared a section on the combat deployment in the Luftwaffe and three other air forces and briefly summarized the issue of camouflage of these aircraft, which were produced under emergency conditions in the last nine months of the war.

Vláďa se v textu soustředil na vývoj této verze a já jsem připravil část, která se věnuje bojovému nasazení v Luftwaffe i třech dalších letectvech a stručně jsem shrnul problematiku kamuflování těchto letounů, jež byly vyráběny v nouzových podmínkách v posledních devíti měsících války.
