In the April 2024 issue of INFO Eduard magazine, I revisit Erich Hartmann's only personal aircraft that is not associated with his parent unit, Jagdgeschwader 52. VGF-29 Wildcats – Operation Torch

 

When US Navy airmen joined the North African landings of Operation Torch in late 1942, many of them had undergone extensive training and gained combat experience from the war in the Pacific. However, over the African continent, they faced several days of hard fighting against former allies who were equipped with American aircraft. One enemy unit even bore the emblem of the American volunteer La Fayette Escadrille from World War I. In the April 2024 issue of INFO Eduard magazine, I provide a look at these events from the perspective of naval fighter pilot “Bill” Eder.

Když se na konci roku 1942 letci US Navy zapojili do vylodění v severní Africe v rámci operace Torch, řada z nich měla za sebou náročný výcvik i bojové zkušenosti, které načerpali z války v Pacifiku. Nad africkým kontinentem je však čekal několikadenní těžký boj proti bývalým spojencům, kteří byli vybaveni americkou technikou. Jedna nepřátelská jednotka dokonce nesla znak americké dobrovolnické La Fayette Escadrille z první světové války. Josef Jacobs – Fokker E.III

 

The subject of aircraft design and aviation combat from the First World War continues to fascinate, even more than a century after the end of that terrible conflict. In the April 2024 issue of INFO Eduard magazine, I revisit the early deployment of Fokker monoplanes and discuss the background to the combat activities of legendary aviator Joseph Jacobs. In the article, I mention information from the French side that many authors omit. I would like to revisit the circumstances of the Jacobs´flight in early March 1916, which ended in an engine fire and an emergency landing, in this article when I have more information.

Letecká technika a boje z období první světové války jsou tématem, které nepřestávají fascinovat ani více než sto let od skončení tohoto strašného konfliktu. Ve vydání magazínu INFO Eduard z dubna 2024 se vracím k počátku nasazení jednoplošníků Fokker  a zmiňuji souvislosti bojové činnosti legendárního letce Josefa Jacobse. V článku zmiňuji informace z francouzské strany, které řada autorů opomíjí. K okolnostem letu z počátku března 1916, jež skončil požárem motoru a nouzovým přistáním, bych se ještě rád v tomto příspěvku vrátil, až získám další informace.

Hannes Trautloft – Messerschmitt Bf 109 G

 

The Eastern Front during World War II was not typically a battleground where high-altitude engagements frequently occurred; they were more of an exception. One such encounter took place between the legendary German aviator Hannes Trautloft and the crew of a Pe-2 photo reconnaissance aircraft. In the March 2024 issue of INFO Eduard magazine, I describe the details and context of this fight.

Východní fronta v období druhé světové války nebyla bojištěm, na němž by se často odehrávaly výškové souboje. Byly spíše výjimkou. Jedno z takových střetnutí absolvoval legendární německý letec Hannes Trautloft a osádka fotoprůzkumného letounu Pe-2. Operation Gommorah

 

In 1943, raids by American four-engine bomber crews on targets in Europe were fraught with heavy losses, inflicted by anti-aircraft gunners and German fighters. This risk intensified, particularly when the bombers lacked the protection of their own fighter units. These actions also posed significant challenges for German airmen. With the implementation of Operation Gomorrah, the air raids evolved into a mortal threat for the people of occupied Europe. I am covering this topic in March 2024 issue of magazine INFO Eduard.

Nálety osádek amerických čtyřmotorových bombardérů na cíle v Evropě byly v roce 1943 provázeny těžkými ztrátami, které dokázali způsobovat protiletadloví dělostřelci i němečtí stíhači, zvláště když se bombardéry nacházely bez doprovodu vlastních stíhacích jednotek. Ani pro německé letce tyto akce nebyly snadné a s operací Gommorah se nálety staly smrtelnou hrozbou i pro obyvatele okupované Evropy. Sonderkommando Blaich

 

On the occasion of the re-release of the Eduard Bf 108 Taifun kit in 1/48 scale, I decided to write a box art story for the painting by my tragically deceased friend, Martin Novotný. Při příležitosti reedice stavebnice Bf 108 Taifun firmy Eduard v měřítku 1/48 jsem se rozhodl napsat boxart story k obrazu, jehož autorem je můj tragicky zesnulý kamarád Martin Novotný.
