American fighter pilot Rex T. Barber will forever be associated with the unforgettable encounter that took place on April 18 th, 1943 over the island of Bougainville that took the life of the architect of the Pearl Harbor attacks, Isoroku Yamamoto. The markings of this aircraft are offered as an option in this month’s Special Edition kit by Eduard in 1/48th scale. But should you think that my article written of Eduard´s INFO magazine will centre exclusively on this mission, you’d be mistaken. I wrote in some depth on the subject in REVI No.18, and I sent an issue to Rex Barber. The envelope from the distant Czech Republic evidently was a pleasant surprise for Mr. Barber, because the number of documents and books I was to receive from Mr. and Mrs. Barber was almost overwhelming! The wife of Rex Barber never forgot to send me clippings from the local press in reference to the Czech Republic after that.

Americký stíhací letec Rex T. Barber je neodmyslitelně spjat se střetnutím, k němuž došlo 18. dubna 1943 nad ostrovem Bougainville a stálo život strůjce útoku na Pearl Harbor admirála Isoroku Yamamota. Marking letounu, s nímž se Barber této akce zúčastnil, je součástí 1/48 stavebnice, již přináší Eduard na trh v tomto měsíci. Pokud očekáváte, že můj článek napsaný pro Eduard Info magazín bude pojednávat právě o této utajované misi, mýlíte se. O ní jsem psal v leteckém magazínu REVI (č. 18) a jeden výtisk jsem zaslal Rexu Barberovi. Překvapení v obálce ze vzdáleného Česka slavného stíhače očividně potěšilo, protože množství dokumentů a knih, které jsem poté postupně od manželů Barberových obdržel, bylo udivující. Manželka Rexe Barbera, paní Margaret, si na mne čas od času vzpomněla i později, když se v místním tisku objevila nějaká zmínka o Česku, neopomněla mi poslat výstřižek.
