Theo Weissenberger was one of the German fighter pilots credited with more than 200 aerial victories. He spent most of his flying career in the cockpit of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 and flew the jet-powered Me 262 towards the end of the war. However, he began his combat career as a successful day fighter pilot flying the twin-engined Bf 110. Among the most significant aerial engagements of the early phase of the Battle of Britain was the combat that took place over the Thames Estuary on 24 July 1940. It confirmed to the Luftwaffe that the RAF would be a formidable opponent—and that Germany’s fighter units still had much to learn.

Mezi nejvýznamnější letecká střetnutí z počáteční fáze bitvy o Británii patří letecký boj, který se odehrál 24. července 1940 nad ústím Temže. Luftwaffe si při něm potvrdila, že RAF bude tvrdým protivníkem a německé stíhací jednotky se mají ještě hodně co učit.
