Original color footage of Hannes Trautloft and 2./JG 77
Most people connect Hannes Trautloft with his association
with Jagdgeschwader 54 ‘Grünherz’ (‘Green Heart’), which is understandable,
since this was the most important era of his military career. What is lesser
known is that he had already a distinguished military past behind him by the
time the Second World War began. In the first year of the war, he performed
command duties with two units that had no connection to JG 54, while JG 54
(with 3 Gruppen) was formed by Hannes Trautloft. A closer look at this period
of his military career is warranted.

S Hannesem Trautloftem má většina lidí spojeno jeho působení
u Jagdgeschwader 54 „Grünherz“ (Zelené srdce), což je pochopitelné, neboť se
jednalo o nejdůležitější část jeho válečné kariéry. Méně známo už je, že
výraznou kariéru vojenského letce měl za sebou již před druhou světovou válkou.
V prvním válečném roce navíc vykonával velitelské funkce u dvou jednotek, které
neměly s JG 54 nic společného, ostatně JG 54 svým způsobem vlastně zformoval až
právě Hannes Trautloft. Pojďme se tedy podrobněji seznámit s tímto obdobím jeho
válečné kariéry
