The Hardest Day´s golf

 

Imagine that you are defending your country, you survive the shooting down of your plane, you are wounded, and you are scolded on the ground by a compatriot you are also defending. This is not 2023, but 1940 and the hardest day of the Battle of Britain. The few minutes articulating my boxart story are worth reflecting on the bravery and universal power of human stupidity. PS: I don't play golf, maybe I missed something.

Max Ritter von Müller

 

When Bavarian NCO Max Müller began to achieve significant success as a fighter pilot with the Royal Württemberg fighter unit, not all his superiors were happy. I outlined the paradoxes of his military career in the 12/2023 issue of INFO Eduard magazine. Müller became the second most decorated German aviator of World War I, after Manfred von Richthofen. In connection with Müller's death, I have contributed to research on this aviator with details of the British crew that defeated this brave pilot in aerial combat.

Když bavorský poddůstojník Max Müller začal jako stíhací letec dosahovat výrazných úspěchů u královské württemberské letecké jednotky, ne každému z jeho nadřízených to vyhovovalo. Paradoxy jeho vojenské kariéry jsem naznačil ve vydání magazínu INFO Eduard 12/2023. Müller se stal po Manfredu von Richthofenovi druhým nejvíce vyznamenaným německým letcem v období první světové války. V souvislosti s Müllerovou smrtí jsem k výzkumům o tomto letci přispěl detaily o britské osádce, která tohoto statečného pilota porazila v leteckém boji.

Heinz Bär´s 201st victory / 201. vítězství Heinze Bära

 

Heinz Bär is one of the most famous fighter pilots of World War II. In the second half of 1943 he fell out of favor with the Luftwaffe and NSDAP, but in 1944 he experienced a comeback from the position of a simple pilot to the position of Kommodore. The article on his 201st victory is one piece of the mosaic of Bär's career.

Moskitojagd

In the 11/2023 issue of INFO Eduard magazine I published a short article outlining the Pathfinder missions and the role the Luftwaffe played in their creation and defense against them. The airman, whose Messerschmitt Bf 109 is depicted in Adam Tooby's boxart, also relates the fate of one Mosquito crew. The course of their mission confirmed that this twin-engined aircraft was a true (wooden) wonder.

Tsurugi Butai

When the US Navy airmen were preparing to attack the Japanese islands for the second time that year in March 1945, they did not count on strong resistance from enemy aviators. They assumed that the elite Japanese airmen had fallen during the previous battles for Guadalcanal, Rabaul, the Pacific Islands, and the Philippines. Their surprise was all the greater when they encountered the elite Tsurugi Butai fighter unit.

Kurfürst – Messerschmitt Bf 109 K-4

In the September issue of the INFO Eduard magazine we prepared an article about the last combat deployed version of the ´109 together with Vladimír Šulc. My co-author concentrated on the development of this version and I prepared a section on the combat deployment in the Luftwaffe and three other air forces and briefly summarized the issue of camouflage of these aircraft, which were produced under emergency conditions in the last nine months of the war.

Jochen Marseille´s 100th

 

“Jochen” Marseille was the most successful German fighter pilot to fight against the Western Allies. In terms of current knowledge, which comes from the study of archival documents, it appears that the credibility of his claimed victories was extremely high. This is well illustrated by the circumstances of the air battle in which this legendary pilot won his 100th victory.

Tainan Kōkūtai vs B-17s

In the August issue of the INFO Eduard magazine, together with my colleague Jan Zdiarský, we prepared an article that not only covers the specific battle of the legendary Tainan Kōkūtai with a formation of four-engine Boeing B-17 bombers, but Jan also described the differences in the way these giant machines were deployed in Europe and the Pacific. Jan is an esteemed member of the 100th Bomb Group (Heavy) Foundation and knows so much about the subject that he lectures in the US.

First winter of JG 54 in Russia / První zima JG 54 v Rusku

 

In the spring of 1942, the Germans on the Eastern Front recapitulated the beginning of the attack on the USSR, which was to be over by winter. It was the experience of the first winter in Russia that the fighter unit JG 54 “Grünherz” also recapitulated. The archival documents of this unit provide a detailed insight into the winter fighting. On the subject of Adam Tooby's boxart, I published an article in the magazine INFO Eduard07/2023.

Na jaře 1942 Němci na východní frontě rekapitulovali počátek útoku na SSSR, který měl skončit do zimy. Právě zkušenosti z první zimy v Rusku rekapitulovala také stíhací eskadra JG 54 „Grünherz“. Archivní dokumenty této jednotky přináší detailní vhled do zimních bojů. K boxartu Adama Toobyho jsem na toto téma publikoval článek v magazínu INFO Eduard 07/2023.

Hickam Field Zero

The attack on Pearl Harbor is one of the milestones of world history and is made up of many big and small stories. One of them is the raid on Hickam Field and the fate of the Zero, which ended up in a nearby street as a wreck with a dead pilot on board.

RUFE: the IJN fighter seaplane - stíhací hydroplán japonského námořního letectva

 

In the 04/2023 issue of INFO Eduard magazine, the first part of my article on the development and combat deployment of the Nakajima A6M2-N seaplane, which was given the Allied code name Rufe, is published. In preparing the text I also used information from publications recently published in Japan, I also worked with records of officers at the Naval Academy in Etajima, and thanks to the support of the Japanese magazine Scale Aviation and its contributors, several previously unpublished photographs taken during combat service will be published in the article, courtesy Mr. Yasuho Izawa. It is not very common with Japanese warplanes, and even less so with the Rufe seaplane. I am also grateful to Ryan Toews for his extensive consultation.

Bf 110: good or bad fighter airplane? Byla stodesítka dobrá stíhačka nebo ne?

I tried AI GPT for fun, testing it in few topics I know. Results were seriously bad, I must say that confidence of AI when you double check obvious errors is dangerous. The AI is even on purpose misleading, see below this example:

If a business unit in a larger company is placed under the authority of a head office in a reorganisation, which specialises in different scope of same service, but at the same time wants to tell its new subordinates what to do in detail, it can end badly.
